I decided to start Kalama Jewelry after I brought a little life into this world, my daughter! Raising children in Hawaii is so much fun, everyday is an adventure! We spend a lot of time playing at the beach or outdoors in a grassy park under the shade of swaying coconut trees.

As a mom, I’m super busy now, and rarely have the time to focus on myself. My kids need me all the time. I no longer have the luxury of meticulously putting together my outfits and make-up. But, even though I am a mommy, I still want to look and feel pretty and stylish. It is because of this that I am attracted to the gorgeousness and energy and brilliance of natural gemstones.

Sometimes, my daughter sees my jewelry and tells me "wow!” or “pretty!” My daughter has truly inspired me to strive to make jewelry that anyone can treasure (even little people)!

The name Kalama represents light or illumination, emphasizing the natural radiance of natural gemstones. My feeling is that all women want to shine, and what better way to enhance their own sparkle and glow with these beautiful gems. I also want to shine more as a mother and woman.

I also chose the name Kalama to represent my brand because it is the name of my favorite beach, Kalama Beach, in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii. When I hear the name Kalama, I am filled with love. Each time I make a piece of jewelry, I infuse this warmth and emotion into my work. I hope to spread my own feelings of love, light, and life with anyone who wears my jewelry.

ブランド名決めたのは、この世界に小さな命を授かってからです。1人愛娘がいます。

ハワイでの初めての育児はとても楽しく、娘と一緒に毎日がアドベンチャーです。私たちはいつもビーチや、公園のヤシの木が揺れる木陰の下で遊んでいす。今は母親として非常に忙しく、自分にかける時間はやはり以前のようにはいきません。しかし、ママになっても女性としていつも綺麗でありたいと思うのが本心で、たとえ化粧がろくにできない日があっても私は天然石のアクセサリーを必ず身につけます。私は天然石のエネルギーとさりげない華やかさ、輝きにいつも魅了されているからです。娘は時々私のジュエリーを見ては「わーお！」や「ちれー！（きれい）」と言います。彼女はまだとても小さいのに、誰かの特別なものになるジュエリーを作ることの思い入れ、そして励むことを奮起させてくれます。

Kalama という名前は、天然石自身の輝きを強調した光やイルミネーションを表しています。私は、自らの美しい天然石の輝きと共に全ての美しい女性はさらに輝き続けると思うのです。私が母としてまた女としてそうありたいと思っています。 また、Kalamaをブランド名に選んだ理由は私の好きなビーチの名前でもあります。オアフ島のカイルアにあるカラマビーチです。

私はカラマという名前を聞くと深く暖かい愛に満たされた気持ちになります。この気持ちを仕事に吹き込みたいと思います。そして、私のジュエリーを選んで頂いた時、もしくはつけて頂いた時に光のあるたくさんの愛を感じていただきたいです。
